In order to manipulate the pages of a PDF file, convert its content between formats, and to protect it against unauthorized use, you will either have to purchase one of the various costly PDF editors existing in the market or to take advantage of PDF Shaper Free. This free tool will let you perform all of those changes in your PDF files in a simple and straightforward way and at no cost at all.

PDF Shaper Free opens as a clean main menu from where you can see and access all of its functionality at once. Distributed into four groups (Documents, Content, Pages, and Security), each of those menu options will open on a new window, just as if they were individual apps. What the Documents section offers you is, basically, four PDF conversion options – namely, from PDF to plain text, Word RTF, or image files, and from image to PDF. You can convert entire documents or specific page selections, and some conversion types come with their own settings, such as the DPI of the resulting images.

The next section (Content) deals with text and image extraction and with the possibility of spitting and merging PDF files, while the Pages menu offers you tools to rotate, crop, extract and delete pages from PDF documents. Finally, the Security menu will let you encrypt and decrypt PDF files, allowing you to choose the different permissions that can be granted to a PDF and to manipulate its metadata to fit your needs. The program supports digital signatures using PFX files. As a bonus, PDF Shaper Free comes with a simple – yet very useful – PDF reader that will let you visualize your PDF files before and after editing them.

Note that this free tool is not a PDF editor as such – it includes no utilities to edit the text or the layout of the file. Though it allows you to extract the text and/or the images of an existing PDF file, you will need a different type of editor to change and reflow its contents. However, if you just need to manipulate your PDF files at document and page level occasionally, you should consider this tool as an excellent free alternative.
